The Eskom Pension and Provident Fund (EPPF) Board would like to take this opportunity to bid farewell to an exemplary leader and welcome an able successor.

“We would like to thank Ms Linda Mateza for her fearless, but gracious leadership over the last 19 months. Your courage, dedication and decisiveness during your tenure has propelled the Fund to navigate stormy waters in unprecedented times and bring to fruition numerous improvements in pursuit of the Fund’s strategy. It has been a pleasure to serve with you Linda and we wish you and your family all the best for the future.” said Chairman of the Board, Ms Caroline Henry.

Following a thorough professional search, the EPPF Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Shafeeq Abrahams as the new EPPF Chief Executive and Principal Officer. He will take up his position on 1 April 2021.

Mr Abrahams, the current EPPF Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has a wealth of experience in various industries including working for Deloitte, Eskom and the National Homebuilders Registration Council (NHBRC). He is well-versed in strategy development and implementation, finance, governance, risk management, stakeholder and reputation management and most importantly, leading people.

Mr Abrahams leaves an indelible mark as he transitions out of his role as EPPF’s CFO and brings with him an intimate knowledge of the Fund. He was appointed into the role of CFO in 2018 and has during his tenure proved to be a valuable member of the executive team.

Mr Abrahams holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, obtained from The University of the Witwatersrand, a Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Accounting Science; and a Masters Degree in Business Leadership, both obtained from the University of South Africa. He ultimately obtained his Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification through the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

“The Board of Trustees has great faith and confidence in Mr Abrahams’ ability to lead the Fund toward our vision of being a sustainable and trusted retirement savings provider; positively impacting a change in society. We believe that after a comprehensive search we have chosen the right individual to lead the executive leadership team and continue the transition towards the achievement of the objectives set out in our 2024 Strategy,” added Ms Henry.

The Board wishes to take this opportunity to wish Mr Abrahams the very best in his new role and assure him of our ongoing support.
