Dear Member,

The EPPF is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Sonja Saunderson as Chief Investment Officer (CIO), with effect from 1 November 2022.

Saunderson has more than 20 years’ experience in investment management including investment philosophy and processes. 

 

Saunderson joins the EPPF from Momentum Metropolitan Holdings where she has served as the Group’s Chief Investment Officer for the past seven years. Saunderson holds a BSc (Cum Laude) in Mathematics and Computer Science (North-West University), a BCom (Cum Laude), a BCom (Hons) (Cum Laude) in Economics and Statistics (North-West University), and ultimately an MCom (Cum Laude) in Statistics and Economics (North-West University). Saunderson also completed various actuarial subjects before pursuing a career in the investment industry.

 

The EPPF’s Chief Executive and Principal Officer, Shafeeq Abrahams, is excited about the appointment, “We are looking forward to Sonja taking up the role as CIO, and in joining the Fund’s Executive Leadership as we grow and position the EPPF for future success. Sonja’s talent, skills, and extensive experience in investment management will be key to the growth of the EPPF, and in creating value for our members and stakeholders. At the same time, Sonja’s appointment consolidates our commitment to enhancing diversity, inclusion and belonging within the Fund’s Executive Leadership team.”

 

Abrahams also thanked the Deputy CIOs, Phathutshedzo Mabogo and Thabo Letlaka, for their commitment and dedication in holding the fort as Acting Chief Investment Officers during the interim period.
