EPPF achieves second consecutive green rating in 2026 NZAOA reporting cycle

EPPF has achieved a green rating, the highest possible assessment outcome, in the 2026 reporting cycle of the Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance (NZAOA).

The NZAOA is a United Nations-convened group of institutional investors, including pension funds, insurers and other asset owners, committed to transitioning their investment portfolios towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As a member of the Alliance, EPPF reports on its progress towards its net-zero commitments and the actions being taken to support the transition.

A green rating indicates that EPPF has fully complied with the Alliance’s reporting requirements. The achievement marks EPPF’s second consecutive green rating, following the Fund’s progress from an amber rating in 2024.

The latest rating reflects the continued strengthening of EPPF’s approach to managing and reporting on its net-zero commitments. As part of this work, the EPPF team continues to engage with its highest-emitting investee companies to better understand their decarbonisation strategies, transition plans and pathways towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

These engagements form part of EPPF’s broader approach to sustainability and responsible investment. EPPF’s sustainability approach recognises that climate change and environmental factors can present material risks and opportunities for the Fund’s investments, while also considering social and economic factors as part of a holistic approach to sustainability.

Achieving a second consecutive green rating is an important demonstration of the Fund’s growing maturity in managing and reporting on its net-zero commitments. It reflects the continued focus on translating sustainability commitments into measurable action and transparent reporting.

The achievement is a testament to the diligence and commitment of EPPF’s Investment Management Unit.

As EPPF continues its journey towards net zero, the focus remains on supporting a more sustainable future for the Fund, its members and the broader economy.

The achievement reflects a strong team effort within EPPF’s Investment Management Unit. Nowana Sobopha serves as the Fund’s key contact between EPPF, the external service provider supporting the audit process and the NZAOA, coordinating the review and ensuring that the final information is accurate and submitted to the Alliance in line with its Target-Setting Protocol and reporting requirements. Thabang Modise supported the data-gathering process, while Itumeleng Seanego led engagement with mining companies and Priscilla Raphasha supported the gathering of private markets data. Together, their diligence, collaboration and attention to detail contributed to EPPF achieving its second consecutive green rating.
