Empowering the Next Generation: EPPF Hosts CFA Day of the Girl Job Shadowing Experience

EPPF recently had the privilege of hosting the annual Day of the Girl Job Shadowing initiative, in partnership with the CFA Society South Africa.

The Day of the Girl initiative offers adolescent girls a unique opportunity to experience the investment industry up close. Through partnerships with local schools and financial institutions across South Africa and neighbouring SADC countries, the programme introduces Grade 10 and 11 learners to the diverse and dynamic world of finance, accounting and investment management.

This year, EPPF welcomed learners from Kaalfontein Secondary School, giving them first-hand exposure to careers in the finance industry. The day offered an inspiring mix of mentorship, practical insights and interactive discussions designed to ignite ambition and broaden career horizons.

EPPF’s Chief Investment Officer Sonja Saunderson shared her personal career journey in investment management, inspiring the young participants with messages of purpose and perseverance. She encouraged them to make conscious choices, reminding them that “every decision you make will lead you somewhere, so choose wisely, dream big and stay dedicated”.

The learners also spent time with Chief Executive and Principal Officer Shafeeq Abrahams, Internal Audit Manager Waseema Mocke, and Chief Financial Officer Thandie Mashego, who offered valuable insights into their respective fields. Together, the executives shared what a “day in the life” looks like within finance, accounting and investment roles, showing the learners how passion, education and persistence can shape meaningful careers and create real-world impact.

Through this initiative, EPPF continues to champion gender equality, skills development and transformation within the asset management industry. By supporting programmes that nurture young talent and expand access to opportunity, the Fund remains committed to building a more inclusive future for all.

Saunderson encouraged the learners to view themselves as future leaders and changemakers in the finance industry, highlighting the importance of hard work, conscious decision-making, and dedication.

EPPF is proud to stand alongside the CFA Society South Africa in promoting opportunities that help bridge the gap between potential and possibility.
