We’re committed to doing the right thing - always

Dear Member,

In 2026, EPPF proudly commemorates 76 years of caring beyond tomorrow; for you, your family, and society at large. With assets exceeding R250 billion, we remain committed to securing your financial future through responsible, member-focused stewardship.

A core part of this commitment is ensuring that all Fund processes and memberships are fully aligned with EPPF Fund Rules and legal requirements.

Why we are contacting some members

You may have heard about the eligibility declarator process. This process arises from the need for the Fund to independently confirm that all members were permanently employed at the time they joined the Fund, as required by EPPF Fund Rules.

This became particularly important following the well-publicised matter involving former Eskom CEO Mr Brian Molefe, which highlighted the need for strict adherence to membership requirements. The outcome of those court processes require that the Fund independently reviews and confirms, based on original employment documents, that all members who participated in the Fund were employed on a permanent basis.

Please bear in mind that the Fund has all your historical pension fund contribution and benefit information. However, until recently, the Fund did not request copies of the original employment contracts that were in place between you and your employer. Those would have indicated that you were employed on a permanent basis. Eskom has also been unable to assist us in retrieving these contracts for some members.

Employers are not required by law to retain employment records indefinitely. As a result, some historical records are no longer accessible to EPPF. Your assistance will therefore enable us to formally regularise all memberships and ensure the Fund's long-term integrity.

Who is affected

This process does not apply to all members.

The Fund will contact only those members for whom original employment records could not be obtained from Eskom.

If you are not contacted, no action is required from you.

What this means for you

  • Your benefits remain secure.

Your pension payments and benefits will continue as usual.

  • We need your assistance.

If you are contacted, please help us confirm your employment status at the time you joined the Fund.

  • EPPF will handle the legal process that will follow.

The information you provide will support our court application for a declarator order confirming your membership as fully compliant. You do not need to attend court or appoint legal representation.

We simply need your help

If you have employment records from when you joined Eskom, please share them with us. If you don’t, that’s not a problem.
