40 Years and Counting: Marie Claassens on Serving EPPF with Heart and Dedication

As EPPF celebrates its remarkable 75-year milestone, we turn the spotlight on one of its steadfast pillars, Marie Claassens, whose four decades of service reflect both the Fund’s resilience and its deep commitment to its members and pensioners.

Marie, who is a Senior Investment Administrator, joined EPPF in 1985, a time when every calculation was painstakingly done by hand. “When I started working for EPPF, all calculations were done manually,” she recalls. “Nowadays, everything is computerised, and with the press of a button, you can get almost any information you need.” This evolution, she notes, is just one example of the many changes that have strengthened the Fund and made it more efficient for those it serves.

Looking back, Marie’s career is marked by moments that seamlessly blend professionalism with camaraderie. One memory still brings a smile and perhaps a wince. “We were driving to a pensioner function in Klerksdorp, and I was the driver. Unfortunately, I hit a bird along the way. Needless to say, we were all in tears and had to redo our make-up by the time we arrived at the venue!”

Beyond the humour, Marie’s recollections are anchored in a deep respect for the Fund’s mission. She has witnessed EPPF navigating challenging times, always with teamwork, dedication, and the needs of members and pensioners at heart. “EPPF will go out of its way to assist members and pensioners,” she affirms. “Its dedication, professionalism, and commitment to provide exceptional service are well known amongst all of us.”

For Marie, EPPF’s 75th anniversary is not just a celebration of history, but of a community bound by trust and service. “We celebrate you and your amazing contributions to our members, pensioners, and the community,” she says with heartfelt pride.

From manual ledgers to digital systems, from long road trips to laughter-filled pensioner gatherings, Marie’s story is a reminder that EPPF’s strength lies not just in its financial stewardship, but in the people who continue to devote their lives to it.
